Joseph “Joe” Vasichek, age 88, resident of Lakota, ND, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.
Joseph Walter Vasichek was born in Brocket, ND, the son of Joseph F. and Wilhelmina (Bosh) Vasichek. He was raised on the family farm in Walsh County, near Brocket, and attended the Sauter Township School. Joe met Rosemarie Jonas, the love of his life, and they were married Oct. 17, 1956, at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Lomice.
Joe operated the family farm and worked at the Ford garage in Lakota during the winter months. The couple moved to Lakota in 1972. Rosemarie died Dec. 14, 2007. Joe was a self-taught mechanic and loved tinkering with John Deere tractors. He loved WWII aircraft, air shows, car shows, and watching western movies.
Joe will be missed by his 2 daughters, JoLynn “Jeanie” Vasichek-Deacey (Steven) of East Grand Forks, MN and JoEllen “Jo” Vasichek-Ralston (Craig) of Kelso, WA; 6 grandchildren, Michael (Katie) Vasichek, Andrew (Myranda) Simmons, Kirah Simonian, Caitlin Ralston, Corey Saiger, and Kyle Simonian; 2 great grandchildren, John Simmons and Lilith Vasichek; and a sister, Doris Novak of Grafton, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. and Wilhelmina Vasichek; wife, Rosemarie; his daughter, JoAnne Simonian; and his brother-in-law, Cleo Novak.
The Funeral Mass for Joe will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church of Lakota on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Church on Monday, Dec. 18, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Lakota Volunteer Ambulance Service.
