Janice Ann Sowatzki, 80, of Devils Lake, passed away on Nov. 21, 2023, in the Bethany Retirement Home in Fargo, N.D. Janice was born May 13, 1943, to Richard and Myrtle (Johnson) Bauerle. Janice grew up and attended school in Churchs Ferry, ND. On June 16, 1962, she married Gary Sowatzki of Penn, ND. They lived on the Sowatzki farm until 1972 when they moved to Devils Lake where she lived the rest of her life, continuing to raise the family and enjoying time with friends. For many years she worked with the Devils Lake Public Schools serving hot lunches and later enjoyed waitressing at the Elks Lodge.
Janice is survived by Shane Sowatzki of Fargo, (once married to Jody), grandson Jamie (Erica) Sowatzki and great-granddaughter Cory Jo of Fargo and granddaughter Jordon of Fargo; daughter Stacy (once married to Doug) Miller of Devils Lake, grandchildren Dustin of Devils Lake, and Jade (Halvorson;) of Grand Forks; Kelly Sowatzki of Fargo and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; spouse Gary; siblings John, Sharon and Duane Bauerle.
Arrangements are being made for interment of ashes in May 2024 at the Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery in Devils Lake, ND, where she will join her spouse, Gary.
