Larry Michael Brady, 89, of Edina, MN, passed away Sunday, Nov. 5, at The Yorkshire in Edina, MN. There was a Celebration of Life on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Brookdale of Edina. A funeral mass was held Monday, Nov. 13 at St. Richards Roman Catholic Church, Richfield, MN. A private burial was held at Fort Snelling Cemetery after the service.
Larry M. Brady was born Feb. 23, 1934, to Sylvester and Rose Brady, in Doyon, ND. His father died when he was six years old. He grew up in Crary, ND, and graduated from high school there in 1951. Larry taught in a one room rural schoolhouse near Devils Lake, ND, until he enlisted in the Army in 1953. He served as an Army medic in Europe until 1955. On Dec. 29, 1956, Larry married Kay Marlene Solberg in Mayville, ND. He attended Mayville State Teachers College and received his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1958. Larry was awarded his Master’s degree by the University of North Dakota in 1960. He later completed his Doctorate at UND in 1974. Larry taught school, became a principal, and served as an administrator for the Burnsville/Eagan/Savage School District for more than 30 years. In semi-retirement he consulted with parochial and private schools in Minnesota and Chile, and taught graduate level courses at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. In retirement Larry loved traveling and spending time at the family cabin on Big Bass Lake near Akeley, MN.
Larry is survived by his wife, Kay, of 66 years; children, Michael Brady, Steven Brady, and Kathy (Jim) Lathrop; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law, Harlan Solberg, sister-in-law Joyce Solberg, and six AFS exchange student family members, Markus (Germany), Arturo (Spain), Catherine (Kenya), Jenny (Australia), Flavia (Italy) and Leo (Columbia).
Preceding Larry in death are his parents; sister, Patricia (Bob) McKay; sister, Mary-Owen (Joey) Livermore; brother, Jim Brady; mother-in-law, Hazel Solberg; nephew, Randy Solberg; father-in-law, Arvid Solberg; brother-in-law, Norlyn Solberg; sister-in-law, Sylvia Solberg; brother-in-law, Gene Solberg; and sister-in-law Phyllis Solberg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Fraser Playground Fund, St. Richards Catholic Church, or AFS USA are much appreciated.
