Thomas Alexander Michael McLean, beloved son, and devout believer, passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2023, at CHI, St. Alexius Health in Devils Lake. He was born on Dec. 2, 1952, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Hospital, in Los Angeles, California the precious son of Howard Kermit and Irene Pearl (Streeter) McLean.
Tom had a deep faith that was evident in every aspect of his life. He embraced an ecumenical outlook on religion and actively participated in the spiritual communities around him. Tom found solace and joy in his involvement with St. Olaf Lutheran Church Choir, where his voice resonated beautifully. Additionally, he valued his role as a lector at Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church and dedicated his time to contributing to the services at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
An avid student of theology, Tom studied the Bible intently and engaged in theological discussions frequently. His thirst for knowledge and eagerness to delve into religious matters endeared him to those who had the same passion.
Beyond his spiritual pursuits, Tom cherished the simple joys of life. He enjoyed several years at St. Anne’s Living Center in Grand Forks, ND. Tom had a particular fondness for the Devils Lake Community, actively participating in Senior Center activities and eagerly attending Devils Lake Community events. Education played a significant role in shaping Tom’s journey. After completing his high school education at Hollywood High School in Hollywood, California, he returned to North Dakota to further enrich his learning experience. Tom attended Bismarck Junior College before continuing his studies at Mary College in Bismarck.
Throughout his life, Tom remained a devoted son who selflessly cared for his mother until her passing in 2003. His unwavering love and support were testaments to their bond.
Tom is preceded in death by his father Howard McLean in March of 1968 and later by his mother Irene. He also joins his grandparents and several aunts and uncles who have passed away before him.
Although he leaves this world, Tom is fondly remembered by his many dear friends and caregivers who were privileged to be part of his life’s journey. Their enduring presence provided comfort and companionship throughout the years. May he rest in eternal peace.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, ND with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
