BILLINGS, Montana — Kyhl Elliot Thomson passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, surrounded by family and with a hug from his wife of 59 years.
Kyhl was born on Jan. 16, 1944, in Devils Lake, ND. He graduated from high school in Devils Lake in 1962. He joined the Army National Guard in 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1968. He graduated from Minot State with a bachelor’s degree in Business in 1966. He began his banking career in Jamestown, ND, and moved to Billings in 1971 and worked at First Citizen’s Bank. He held several sales jobs with Pabst Brewing Company, Toro, Husqvarna and retired from Stihl Incorporated in 1999. He was the head of the Civitan Club in Billings and was Jaycee man of the year in Jamestown. After retirement, Kyhl and Marlene loved attending grandchildren’s sporting events, tinkering in the garage, traveling and many family gatherings. He was also the president of HOA for four years.
He spent his last months with the incredible staff at Highgate Senior Living and was visited daily by close friends and family.
Kyhl will be remembered for his kindness to others and his sense of humor, along with his famous three-fingered wave.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence (Kyhl) and Walter; his brother Kent (Kay, then Diane); and his sister Karen (Grant Eidsnsess); and nephew Kane Thomson. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; sons Kory (Rhonda) and Kurt (Kelli); grandchildren Katelyn (Forest Coughtry), Kyhler (Allison), Kailey (Chase Truscott), Kaden; one great-grandson, Cooper Coughtry, and many important nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Peace Lutheran Church, 1301 Avenue D, Billings, MT. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Peace Lutheran Food Pantry (Billings, MT).
