Grace (Ruud) Twete, age 89, resident of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Tolna, ND, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Eventide Heartland Care Center.

Grace Arlene Ruud was born July 24, 1933 in McVille, ND to Clarence and Viola (Johnson) Ruud. The family lived outside of McVille until she was 5 years old, then they moved to a farm outside of Pekin. Grace started school at Divide #1 country school at the age of 6. She and her older sister, Verna, walked to school until it got too cold and then would get a ride from Dad. She started school in Pekin when entering the 6th grade. In the winter, during the week, Grace and her sister stayed in Pekin with folks because the roads were not open. Weekends they got to go home when Dad came with the horses and sleigh. In the Spring and Fall they had many outdoor games, but a favorite was softball. Due to hitting a lot of home runs, Grace was known as “Slugger Pete”. She graduated as Salutatorian of her class in 1951. Grace married Arley Twete on June 7, 1951. In 1952 they moved to a farm near Tolna, where they raised 5 children. She helped her husband on the farm with Hereford cattle, milking, and grain harvest. She was a great cook and baker, with the coffee pot always on for company. She was a member of Sigdal Lutheran Church and an active member of their women’s group. She sold the farmstead in 2008 and moved to an apartment in Devils Lake. There she moved into assisted living in early 2017 and into skilled care in late 2017.

Grace is survived by all of her children, Castle of Parker, CO, Shelly (Gary) Roehrick of Grand Forks, ND, Michael (Brenda) of Spokane, WA, Rodney of Eagle, CO, and Cornell of West Fargo, ND; one brother, Curtis (Linda) Ruud of Mohall, ND and Gilbert, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Aaron Twete of Mead, WA, Dakota Twete of Spokane, WA, and Kelly McCardle of Portland, OR; 1 great grandchild, Dakoda Twete; and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arley; her parents, Clarence & Viola Ruud; and her sister & brother-in-law, Verna & Harold Gleason.

The family wishes to offer their gratitude to all the staff at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake for their care of Grace.
