Theresa Ruth Cavanaugh (Brown Buffalo Woman) Pte Gi Winyan, 39, our precious daughter, mother, sister, aunt and friend was born on Jan. 3, 1984, to the late Robert “Bob” Cavanaugh Jr. and Delphine Cavanaugh in Devils Lake, ND. She passed away on July 3 due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Crow Hill Rec Center with Fr. Paul Schuster celebrating. Visitation was on Sunday, July 16, at Crow Hill Rec Center with Rosary and Prayer Service. Burial will be held at St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery in Crow Hill, ND. The procession to Crow Hill Rec Center was on Sunday.

Theresa grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation, she attended Oberon Public School and Tate Topa Tribal School where she completed her elementary education. Her high school education she attended Flandreau Indian School and Marty Indian School & Four Winds High School. She than enrolled at the Job Corp in Minot and received her CNA certificate. She had worked various jobs here on Spirit Lake and Devils Lake areas. Her favorite hobby was arts and crafts.

Theresa basically was a home mother; she enjoyed her company at home. She enjoyed listening to her music, cooking, cleaning and experimenting with different recipes. Theresa always managed to support her children and wear a smile when times got difficult. She was baptized in the Catholic Church and carried the Lord in her prayers.

Theresa leaves behind her loving children, Tashina, Ramanda, Zander, Asa, Chase and Jordan Cavanaugh; granddaughter, Tayleena Feather; brother, Robert ‘Cha’ Cavanaugh III and Garrett John; sister, Ruth Ann Cavanaugh; mother, Delphine Cavanaugh; niece and nephews, Iris, Sage, LaShay, Robert Jr. V, Dejean, Sonny, Luke, Chloe, Laura, Ryder and Dion; aunts, Yvonne, Carmen, Onna and Germaine, Alice Van Dyke; uncle, Dean Dunn.

Theresa was preceded in death by her father, Robert “Bob” Cavanaugh; brother, Jarvis Cavanaugh; grandmother, Ruth Cavanaugh; grandfather, Robert “Hobo” Cavanaugh Sr., Ambrose and Theresa (Alex) Littlewind; uncles, Ambrose Littlewind Jr., Michael “Micky” Cavanaugh; aunt, Lavina Littlewind; grandparents, Joseph and Martha Littlewind; cousins, Whalen, Andrew, Tobias, Shaw, Aaron, Mitchell, John, Lindsey, Johanna, Leann and Avis; friends, Doris Denne and Loretta Whitebuffalo.

Pallbearers were Duane Littlewind, Kyle DuBois, Lionel Dunn, Rusty Hunt, Alfred Thompson Jr., Larse Azure, Jodi Gaking and Trent Anderson.

Honorary Pallbearers were Peggy Cavanaugh, Roberta Littleghost, Catherine Howard, Renita and Whalen Shaw and Johanna Robertson-Hunt, Helena LittleGhost, Girls’ Softball Team “80” Fort Totten, Tokio, St. Michael Team’s; The Cavanaugh and Littlewind families would like to Thank everyone for the prayers, food, blankets, and flowers.
