Allan ’Al” Clarence Miller, 80, of Cando, ND passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Towner County Living Center in Cando, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cando at 11:00 a.m. with Father Bernard Pfau celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, rural Webster, ND.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Alan’s name are preferred to the donor’s choice.

Allan Clarence Miller “Al” was born March 27, 1943, at Devils Lake, Mercy Hospital. He was the first child of Clarence A. Miller and Bernyce Nelson Miller. His Godparents were Cecil Miller and Agnes McCann.

Allan attended rural grade school in Cato and Harding Township until 8th grade. He helped on the farm in his teen years. Allan had a great love for art. He had classes under Robert Moore in Devils Lake, and took correspondence courses from art school in Minnesota. He loved to share his art work with family and friends, until his eyesight limited him.

He developed type I diabetes at the age of seventeen; he spent 10 days in a coma and wasn’t expected to survive. He battled health issues throughout his entire life, though his resiliency.

Allan married Lillian Ahoe on Dec. 16, 1969, at Assumption Catholic Church at Starkweather, ND. They lived and worked in Grand Forks and raised a stepdaughter, Marie and son Shawn Allan born Sept. 28, 1972, in Grand Forks, ND.

Allan worked at a local bakery and was janitor at South Forks Mall. In the early 1980’s he moved to Cando, ND. He worked for Noodles by Leonardo until injury forced his retirement. He then spent many years helping with lawncare and farm work. He enjoyed working with the Hoffmans on the “tree chipper.” His favorite farm job was with Arne & Kris Berg.

Allan loved to visit family and friends for family events and holidays. He never missed dressing up for local dances and weddings. He loved to dance and was very good at the waltz, polka and square dance.

Due to uncontrolled health issues, he entered Towner County Living Center in August of 2013. He loved the staff and residents of the Home and they became his family. Allan’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of TCLC for their friendship and care given over the past 10 years.

Allan was always friendly, humble and kind. He was a man of simple means. He worked hard to pay his bills and be a good shepherd in this life. Allan died peacefully at TCLC on Friday morning July 7, 2023. May be rest forever in the home of “Our Father.”

Allan is survived by his son Shawn Allan of Fort Worth, Texas; his brothers Edward and (Bonnie) Miller rural Devils Lake, Nick Miller of Devils Lake and Tim Miller; his sister Rose and (Dennis) Windjue of Devils Lake; many nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents, stepdaughter Marie, sister Virginia Scott and nephew Toby John Miller and several aunts and uncles.
