James Burdick, 67, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Sanford Fargo Hospice House.

James Leroy Burdick was born on July 26, 1955, in Baumholder, Germany where his father was serving in the US Army. He grew up in Devils Lake, ND, with his parents and four siblings. Jim attended Devils Lake High School where he met his future wife, Nancy Ann Young. The couple was married in Devils Lake on May 29, 1976. He then went on to serve in the US Navy from 1973-1977. During his time in the Navy he was stationed out of Norfolk, Virginia aboard the USS Independence. With the Navy, Jim traveled to the Mediterranean, the North Atlantic Ocean, and the Caribbean Sea. Upon returning from his travels with the Navy, Jim attended the University of North Dakota, North Dakota State School of Science, and finally graduated from North Dakota State University in 1988 with a degree in Math Education. He then went on to his Master’s Degree in Math Education in 1992 from Minot State University.

Out of college Jim began his teaching career in West Fargo, ND as a 7th grade Math Teacher. He also coached Football as well as Track and Field. In 1992, Jim and Nancy welcomed their first child, Steven James Burdick and in 1994, they welcomed their second child, Emily Beth Burdick. In 2016, Jim concluded his teaching career, retiring at the age of sixty. Jim was an avid outdoorsman – he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and also had a passion for cooking for others.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Richard John Burdick (2004) and Shigeko “Toni” Burdick (2016). He is survived by his wife Nancy Burdick and children, Steven Burdick, Emily (Brander) Halver and grandson Jackson James Halver. Siblings- Margaret (John) Ridley, Rosemary Ridley, Joe (Kim) Burdick, and Sally (Rob) Dahl.
