Daryl Haas, age 78, of Fertile, MN, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, in Fertile.
Daryl Sydney Haas was born on Oct. 4, 1947, in Devils Lake, ND, to Sydney and Delores (Ward) Haas. He grew up in Tolna, ND, and graduated from Tolna High School in 1965. He continued his education at Valley City State Teachers College, graduating in 1969. On June 7, 1968, Daryl married Marjorie “Margie” Elaine Walter at Warwick Lutheran Church in Warwick, ND. Together they made their home in Valley City while Daryl finished college. Following graduation, Daryl and Margie moved to Fessenden, ND, where he taught high school math and chemistry from 1969 to 1972. In 1972, they moved to Grafton, ND, where he was employed at the lumber yard for two years. The family later moved to Castle Rock, MN, where Daryl began his career in banking. In August of 1977, they relocated to make their home in Fertile. Daryl proudly worked at First State Bank of Fertile for nearly 40 years, serving the community until his retirement following the sale of the bank.
Family was at the heart of Daryl’s life, and he was always there for the people he loved. If someone needed a hand, Daryl was often the first to show up and help, never making much fuss about it. He treasured time with his children and grandchildren and was happiest simply being together. Summers often included fishing trips on Devils Lake with family, and throughout the years he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and his daily walks. In his younger years, he spent many peaceful hours playing his guitar at home. A loyal sports fan, Daryl rarely missed a Vikings football or Minnesota Twins game, whether watching from home or making a trip to the Twin Cities to cheer them on in person. He also looked forward to spending a month each winter in Florida with LaRae and her family. Along the way, Daryl formed many cherished friendships and truly enjoyed the people who became part of his life.
Daryl is survived by his wife, Margie of Fertile; four children, Derek (Lori) Haas of Thief River Falls, MN, Darren Haas of Lakota, ND, Jason (Marie) Haas of Fertile, and LaRae (Joe) Coleman of Daytona, FL; nine grandchildren, Hailey (Steven) Jordan, Alec (Tapanga) Haas, Elliot Haas, Evan Haas, Lane Haas, Dylan Coleman, Aliya Coleman, Jacob Coleman, and McKenzie Coleman; his siblings, Gary Haas of Grand Forks, ND, and Dale Haas of Tolna, ND, Wayne (Tami) Haas of Spokane, WA, and Laura (Brian) Reid of Tolna, ND; along with extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Delores Haas.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile. A time of gathering was one hour before the service at the church. Inurnment took place at Concordia Cemetery.
