Leah Schell, 90, entered eternal rest on Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023.

A memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 15, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck.

Interment will be held at New Leipzig at a later date.

Leah was born on Dec. 6, 1932, in New Leipzig, ND, the youngest of 18 children to Jacob and Christine Sackmann. At the age of 13 she moved with her brother to Lemmon, SD.

She married Richard Schell on March 14, 1950. Leah worked from a young age at various hotels as a housekeeper in Dickinson, Jamestown and Bismarck, working at Kirkwood Motor Inn for over 30 years. Leah never had a driver’s license, which never hindered her from being able to go where she needed to go, as she would walk to work or wherever else she needed to be. Leah knew she could count on her family for help with transportation or any other needs she had.

She enjoyed reading, especially Danielle Steele novels, doing word search puzzles, saving change to be placed in unique jars and playing Yahtzee and bingo with friends at The Terrace. She also enjoyed her trips to the casino.

Leah is survived by five children; Carol Thompson, Mandan; Vickie (Deacon Ken) Severinson, Devils Lake; Connie (Mark) Schulz, Bismarck; Pamela (Tom) Roehrich, Fargo; and Brian (Diane) Schell, Mandan; 12 grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

Leah was preceded in death by her parents; 17 siblings; and son-in-law, Stanley Thompson.
