May Fleisher

May Mikkelson Fleisher passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, N.D. She was born on April 5, 1934, in Devils Lake. Her mother died during childbirth and she was adopted into the Oscar and Tina Mikkelson family at the age of three weeks.

She was raised on the family farm at Garske, ND and attended grade school at Garske. She graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in 1952. She then attended Mayville State Teacher’s College. While there, she met Don Fleisher and they were married on June 10, 1954.

May and Don spent their teaching careers in North Dakota continuing until 1963. At that time Don joined the U.S. Customs Bureau, and they lived at the Sarles, N.D. Port of Entry. After Don’s death in 1989, May returned to live in Devils Lake.

Her loving family include her son Tony and his wife Leisha of Sunburst, Mont.; grandson Todd (Addie) Fleisher; granddaughter Nicole (Lee) Walker; great grandchildren Nash, Lee, and a baby boy soon to be born and Ruger; several nieces and nephews.

She was reunited with her parents, husband Don Fleisher, brothers Russell Mikkelson, Vincent Mikkelson, Clarence Peterson and John Peterson, sisters Mildred Simpson (Carson) and Evelyn DeVany (Roland).

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 1 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
