Donna McWalter

Donna Mae McWalter, age 89, passed away at home on March 1, 2026.

She was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Sharon, N.D. to Carl and Beulah Johnson, and grew up in Devils Lake, N.D. Donna graduated from nursing school in Minot, N.D., and began her nursing career there before continuing her work in Chicago, where she met her husband, George. After his graduation and during his career in military service, their life together included many moves, and she chose to devote herself fully to being an exceptional wife and mother.

She was a beautiful woman of quiet strength—steady, present, and always there when it mattered. She was a thoughtful listener who valued her friendships and enjoyed staying connected with others. Donna showed her love through care and consistency, especially in the way she looked after her family and took special care of her husband throughout their life together.

She will be remembered for her kindness, steadiness, and the quiet way she cared for others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Donna is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years , George McWalter; her children, Sean McWalter and Erin McWalter; her sister, Connie Abrahamson (Paul); her sisters-in-law, Mary Owens and Sheila McWalter; her brother-in-law, Jack McWalter; her beloved nieces and nephews, Donna Idstrom, Susie Meyer, Eric Johnson, Carl Johnson, Thomas Owens, Jr., Julie Owens Burns, Michael Owens, Sharon Owens, Katie Owens Mulcahy, Kerry Rubin, and Patrick McWalter; and many beloved extended family members who held a special place in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wallace Johnson.

A rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on April 16, at Santa Sophia Church, 9800 San Juan St., Spring Valley, Calif. A reception will follow in the parish hall. A committal service will be held on April 17, at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, Calif.
