James G. Legacie, age 67, resident of rural Edmore, ND, died Friday, March 10, 2023, at his home near Edmore.

James Glenn Legacie was born Aug. 4, 1955, in Devils Lake, ND, the son of David and Margaret (Shorey) Legacie. He was raised on his parent’s farm near Edmore where he graduated in 1973. Jim then attended Lake Region State College to study Auto Mechanics and Welding, but his true passion was farming. He farmed alongside his father and brother for many years. When his father passed away, Jim and Garland continued farming together until 2009 when Garland passed away. Jim was uncertain of the future of his farming career alone but persevered with the help of neighbors, family and hired hands. He eventually retired in 2019 to work on his boat and be on the water. In his early years, he enjoyed curling with his brother and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, cleaning, visiting over the phone, and getting together with family for holidays and gatherings. But above all else, he loved his house and made sure it was spotless.

Jim was a member of the Lawton Fire Department, Lawton Township Board, Lawton Cemetery, and President of the Edmore Curling Club. He was also one of the founding members of the Red Devil Guiding Service (Perch Patrol) where he guided for 18 years.

Jim will be missed by his sister-in-law, Jan Legacie of Devils Lake; 3 nieces, Jade (Doug) Erickstad of Devils Lake, Brooke (Derek) Johnson of Grand Forks, and Jesa (Drew) Wilhelmi of Devils Lake; sister, Sharon (Steven) Meissner of Las Vegas; nephew, Trent Legacie and family of Boston; and great nephew, Anders Erickstad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Margaret Legacie; brother, Garland Legacie; and nephew, Gregg Meissner.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the spring at the Lawton Cemetery, Lawton, ND.
