It’s not every day that a famous actor and magician comes through Devils Lake. Actor and magician Steve Valentine came to Lake Region State College on Thursday, April 10, to put on a magic show that the college students would never forget.
The Scottish-born Valentine has acted in TV shows such as “Monk” and “Crossing Jordan.” His film work includes “Spider-Man 3” and “Monster High” and a number of Disney projects. He has also lent his voice to a number of video games including the PlayStation smash hit “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.”
Before becoming an actor, he made his career as a magician for the stars. His clients have included Bryce Dallas Howard and Sylvester Stallone. In many of his roles, he has included magic as a part of his character.
Before the show started, a video reel was played of his various appearances in TV and film, with him narrating. Also, cards were left on the stage for some chosen people to initial which would be later used in a trick.
During the show, he amazed the students with a variety of sleight-of-hand tricks, card tricks, and other magic that would make you do a double take. He invited the Director of Student Life onstage and got water to come out of his ear. He also successfully picked out the cards on which students had written initials.
He brought students on stage to be his assistants for some tricks, as well, and to show that there were no wires or anything hidden to help with his tricks.
After the magic show, Valentine did a Q&A with the students. He talked about how he started off in magic, making it as an actor in California, and some of the projects he acted in.
