Thursday, on Halloween, was the last day that LeAnn Klett of North Dakota Coffee Connection would hand you your morning brew. After managing the coffee shop for 11 years, she sold the business to new owners.
Klett said she had been “trying to sell for four years” and was able to finally put pen to paper. “I’m excited to start the next chapter in my journey,” she said. As for what’s next for her, she wasn’t sure about that.
Klett initially took over the shop from Phyllis and Royce Caldwell. After manning the drive-thru booth for a long time, Klett said she is going to miss her daily customers the most.
“The people, all the customers have been great. All my regulars. I made some really good friends,” she said.
The coffee shop will soon reopen under new ownership.
“I know they’re very excited. I think they’ll bring a new, fresh breath of air to the shop with new ideas and concepts and things that they want to do and try. I’ve been stagnant for the past four years,” Klett said.
Some DLJ history: In 2003 new employee at DLJ, Louise Oleson’s first interview was of the Caldwells when they first opened the North Dakota Coffee Connection. Oleson later interviewed Klett about her time serving overseas in Iraq. It was Oleson’s final interview before retiring Nov. 2, 2020. She is hoping to retire (fully or partially) again as of Dec. 1, 2024. The Journal will bring you more of that story as it develops.
