On Aug. 6, in the Devils Lake Journal, we wrote about the incredible rescue of a woman by National Guardsman David Hooge. Hooge pulled a woman out of her car after she had crashed into the water off Highway 20. Hooge’s actions garnered attention from news media and social media all over the state. The story hasn’t ended there.
A reunion of the Hooge’s and the family of the rescued woman happened Thursday, Aug. 9 in Devils Lake. The families met at Dunn Bros Coffee in the City Plaza. Nicole Eagle, the mother of the woman rescued, gave hugs to both David Hooge and Charlotte, his wife. Eagle’s fiance, Domingo, gave hearty handshakes. Eagle’s daughter was not present as she is still recovering from the incident.
Conversations and pleasantries were not the only things that were exchanged. Both exchanged endearing gifts to one another. Eagle gifted the Hooge family a star quilt which Charlotte described as “the most beautiful star quilt.” The Hooges gave a necklace for Eagle’s daughter. The necklace has a wing with a cross on it.
A financial donation was also given due to Eagle’s daughter having to miss work.
