Dedication of statue at Memorial Building
All Devils Lake residents are invited to a very special event on Friday, August 9 at 10:30 a.m. outside the Memorial Building, 524 4th Ave. NE.
In honor of the two local men who died in military service in Afghanistan and Iraq during the Global War on Terrorism – SFC Darren M. Linde and CPL Jeremiah S. Santos – a statue titled “Soldier’s Fallen Cross” will be dedicated. The Soldier’s Fallen Cross, also known as the Battllefield Cross, Fallen Soldier Battlefield Cross or simply as Battle Cross, shown here, is a symbol used to honor deceased service members. The cross is made up of a soldier’s boots, helmet and weapon. The one shown here was sculpted by artist Richard Young.
Following the dedication ceremonies a free lunch will follow at the Devils Lake VFW.
