Theresa A. (Kuntz) Overbo, 75, a lifelong resident of Devils Lake, ND, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at her home in the loving care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday, August 5, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with burial in the Trinity-Bergen Cemetery, rural Garske, ND.

Theresa Ann Kuntz, the youngest of six children, was born on March 22, 1949, in Devils Lake to Walter and Katherine (Lemer) Kuntz. Theresa attended St. Mary’s Academy, St. Joseph, and Central High School. She also attended the Bernel Hair Styling and Cosmetology School in Grand Forks.

On November 25, 1967, she married the true love of her life Clayton Overbo at St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a lifelong member, being baptized and confirmed there. They continued living, working, and raising their two sons Terry and David in Devils Lake.

Theresa worked at Bonnie’s Beauty Studio before becoming a stay-at-home Mom, enjoying her time spent with Terry and David until 1979 when she started working for Lake Region Special Education at Minnie H School as a TMH aide and later expanded to classroom and workshop which moved to Lake Region College. In 1983 Lake Region Corporation was formed, moving into a new building at its present location where she worked for a combined 37 years, retiring in February 2016. She enjoyed the years working with all the consumers.

She was a member of St. Rita’s Circle, lifelong member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #756, Devils Lake. She loved watching her sons in Cross Country and playing hockey. Later watching her grandchildren playing hockey.

For years, she enjoyed the yearly 2 weeks spent in Canada fishing and camping with Clayton, Terry, and David until they graduated high school. Clayton and Theresa would continue the yearly trips. She was thankful for the new tradition that started with grandson Landon coming for a week in 2011 to Kenora, Ontario, Canada, then son David and grandson Michael would follow for the yearly camping and fishing trips. It was a very special time she looked forward to every year. She enjoyed the two cruises they were able to go on to Alaska and the Panama Canal.

Theresa enjoyed cooking and hosting family birthday suppers, baking, and making special treats for her sons and grandchildren, feeding the birds, tending her flowers, garden, and canning. She loved watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, was an avid Minnesota Twins, UND and Minnesota Wild Hockey fan.

Theresa was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, beloved sister, aunt, and friend.

Theresa is survived by her loving family. Her husband Clayton of 56 ½ years; sons Terry (Shelly) Overbo and David (Brandi) Overbo; grandchildren Landon, Michael, Bailey, and Rylan Overbo; step grandchildren Chad and Cory Sanda; brother John (Nancy) Kuntz, many nephews and nieces who were all very dear to her; special lifelong friend Colleen Joramo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Beatrice and Lyle Bracken, brothers Tom, Don, and Walter “Curly” Kuntz, nephews Richard, Robert and Justin Bracken, Michael Kuntz, mother and father in-law Clifton and Mildred Overbo, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carole and Pete Peterson.

Casket Bearers will be her grandchildren Landon, Michael, Bailey, Rylan Overbo, Chad, and Cory Sanda. Honorary Bearers are nephews Steve Bracken and Mark Ahlberg and all her special nieces and nephews. Lectors will be Jody Skadsem, and Stacy Saabe. Eucharistic Gift Bearers will be Landon, Michael, Bailey, and Rylan. Music will be provided by Patty Cote.
