Amateur and professional photographers of North Dakota get your cameras ready! North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s Watchable Wildlife Photo Contest has started and now is your time to put those cameras to great use.

North Dakota is well known for its wide array of fauna, flora, and other unique wildlife. Now is the opportunity to get those photos recognized by Game and Fish in the magazine North Dakota Outdoors.

A full list of rules can be found at https://gf.nd.gov/wildlife/watchable-photo-contest

There is no age limit or camera requirements and all photos must be taken in North Dakota.

The contest has been going on for 20 years and last year’s winner was a picture of the elusive bobcat.

“It’s a way to get people to enjoy wildlife,” said Game and Fish’s conservation biologist Patrick Isakson. “We are encouraging people to go out and enjoy North Dakota and take a few pictures while doing so.”

The contest has categories for nongame and game species, as well as plants/insects. An overall winning photograph will be chosen.

Isakson said when he gets the submission he enjoyed “seeing all the different species people see when they’re out.”

“We get wonderful photos of turtles, fish, and unique insects.”

The contest is open and the deadline for submitting photos is Oct. 1. For more information or questions, contact Patrick Isakson, department conservation biologist, at pisakson@nd.gov.
