Board member Jason Hodus is being sworn to a three-year term as LeeAnn Johnston looks on.

The Devils Lake Public School Board held a regular meeting on Monday, June 24. Here are some highlights from the meeting.

Lake Region Special Education Center held a presentation and said they were introducing trauma-informed yoga. It would help students with anxiety, depression, and other behavioral issues.

Superintendent Ned Clooten was asked by the board if there was one concern he had to address what it would be. He said the one concern “is the use of class time.”

Clooten told the Journal: “I’m talking about here’s a worksheet do it in 30 minutes. “Doing more things in a class as a group. I might hand out a worksheet but we’ll do the first five together. Cold-calling students on what they think, discussing… I think that’s beneficial to student learning because it keeps them on their toes. Keeps them active. Rather than ‘oh I got the worksheet, I’m going to stick it in my bag, and go on social media… oh I’ll do it later.’” I want them to use as many of those 50 minutes as possible.”

The school board approved the election results of board members Jason Hodous and Lee Ann Johnston to serve three-year terms on the DLPS.
