The Devils Run Car show always goes off without a hitch due to the work of many people. One man, though, has been the glue that holds the event together. Stan Orness, founder and chief organizer, has been the man behind the curtain for 32 years of the Devils Run Car Show.

“It was good,” he told the Journal. “We had a lot of entrants this year… 860 entrants… We had participants from nine states and four Canadian provinces.”

Orness noted that as well with the large crowd, they will use hotels, eat in the area, and get gas for their vehicles. “It covers a huge area that benefits us,” he said.

One of the new activities that happened at the four-day event was the Encore 301 movie theater screening of the 1968 Steve McQueen classic “Bullitt.” It was an apt movie to show given the film’s famous car chase sequence.

“I’m trying to draw from a large area and do things that other car shows don’t do,” Orness said. “I thought we got this movie theater, it’s another indoor activity.”

Orness also stated it was there in case of inclement weather. For next year’s film, tentatively planned is “Eddie and the Cruisers.”

Orness was presented with a plaque for his many years of work to organize the Devils Run. He has no plans to quit organizing the event anytime soon.

“I’ve threatened to say ‘I’ve had enough back at the 10th anniversary,” he said. “I’m planning on going as long as I can as long as I am able and capable.”
