Eleven-year-old Alfred Eggermont from Binford, ND, is the first child from North Dakota to compete on Master Chef, Jr., with Gordon Ramsey on FOX, channel 10 on Midco Cable. The show airs at 7 p.m. on Mondays and began March 4.

The second episode aired last night, March 11 and this time the featured protein was seafood. Each young chef selected a Pirate’s chest that contained the protein they were to prepare. If you know Ramsey’s competitions, there’s often a twist and this time the twist was that the young chefs had to also incorporate seaweed into their dishes.

How did they learn about that twist?

Ramsey’s daughter, who is serving as one of the judges for this special edition of Master Chef, Jr., “slimed” her dad with seaweed in a good old “Nicolodeon-style” dump from above.

Several varieties of seaweed were supplied the young chefs as well as spices and groceries needed for their dishes.

They had 60 minutes to prepare a dish fit for the judges to taste and evaluate, hoping to be the winner, or at least in the top three.

Young Eggermont delighted in his giant prawns from his treasure chest. (spoiler alert! If you haven’t watched this episode you should stop reading now!) The judges were so impressed with his expertise with seafood that can be tricky for even mature, experienced cooks to prepare, that he was the first contestant to be named in the top three for this episode.

All three of the top three are then safe from elimination.

Of the top three one is selected to be the top chef. That top chef and their family would be treated to an all-expense vacation on the California coast.

Although he did not win that honor, or the prize, this time around, he and two others were selected to be safe from elimination and sadly, one young chef was sent home.

The next episode of Gordon Ramsey’s Master Chef, Jr., will air on Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m. where they will continue the competition for Top Chef, Jr. prizes and bragging rights.
