The Ramsey County Commission held a meeting on Tuesday, February 20. Here are some highlights from the meeting:

Paul Becker, Ramsey County Fair board member provided an update on the Fairgrounds building. With fundraising, they have got approximately $1.6 million in pledges and cash. Another $200,000 is said to be coming in as well. Becker said they are working on different grants from businesses and other grant sources.

Construction is planned “to begin this summer.” The expected completion of the building will be June 2025. “It’s a great addition to our community,” said Chairman Jeff Frith.

Ramsey County Sheriff Bryan Lang was present to discuss the agreement of the K-9 unit that has joined Ramsey County Police. Raptor and his handler both recently transferred from Benson County. It will be a six-year contract. Each year the amount goes down. After it reaches 6 years if the K-9 decides to retire or move on, Ramsey County can purchase the K-9 unit for $10. “I think it’s a pretty fair contract,” said Frith. The county commission approved the K-9 agreement.

The county commission also approved Kale Stromme’s appointment to the North Central Housing Authority for a five-year term.
