It’s going to be cold outside but you’ll be warm inside the KC Hall with a hot meal and a belly of laughs. Fort Totten Little Theater will be putting on a dinner theater production of Karen Schaeffer’s comedic play “Girls’ Weekend.” The play includes a cast of local favorites who are veterans of the stage.
The play follows four women who travel to a cabin to relax, trade stories, and most importantly imbibe lots of wine. But as the wine is consumed, secrets are spilled, and men soon enter the picture. What results is a madcap myriad of comedic chaos.
Stephanie Nelson plays Carol in the show. She describes her character as someone “who tends to get carried a little bit away.” About the show, she said there are “a lot of funny scenes and a little romance.”
“I hope [the audience] come and laugh and relax and just take a moment away from their hectic lives and have some fun.”
Long-time theater actor Gavin Brown is also in the show. The first show he was in was “The Wizard of Oz” 13 years ago. He plays Stephen in this show. “I think [the audience] will like the energy of the show and the ins and the coming and going of different characters.”
When Phillip Maritato read the script he said he was “laughing out loud during the table read.” He plays Tom, who is a small-town Minnesota sheriff. “He’s a safety-first kind of guy,” Maritato said. “Everyone is following the rules but he can’t turn down hospitality. He’s a nice genuine cuddly dude.”
Maritato said theatergoers will have a great time seeing people they make fools of themselves. “There is nothing better than live entertainment,” Maritato said. “I just hope they can go home with a smile on their face, a full belly, and looking forward to next year’s show.”
“Girls’ Weekend” will go up at the KC Hall at 7 p.m. on January 24-27, 31 and February 1-3. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner is served at 6:30 p.m.
The FTLT will also have auditions for its summer show “The Wedding Singer” on Saturday the 27th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at LRSC. Bring 16-32 measures of a song to perform and then some dialogue will be read from the script. They are also looking for a set builder and a person who can work in sound and light tech.
