The Devils Lake Public Schools had their first meeting of 2024 on Monday, January 8. Here are some highlights that happened at the meeting:
Two teachers were awarded employees of the quarter. Crystal Eversvik, an instructional coach at Sweetwater, was the first recipient and awarded teacher of the quarter. Eversvik was described as a “master teacher and master leader” whose “knowledge and skills have a positive impact on the entire school”…”She goes above and beyond her call of duty.”
Eversvik said, “10% of my life was without education… my family on my mom and dad’s side did not have educators.” She moved to Devils Lake in the 7th grade. “It’s a small community but large enough community to call home,” she said. “I can see us being here for the remainder of my life.”
Melissa Kremer, a paraprofessional at Minnie H. Elementary School was awarded employee of the quarter. She started three years ago and was described as a teacher who “treats all students with kindness and respect” and someone who “brings out the best in students.”
“To be nominated for this award is an honor,” Kremer said. “I love being a para. I love working with the kids. Young kids are my passion. Seeing their faces light up at the light bulb moments is priceless.”
CMS will be getting a new oven courtesy of a $8900 USDA grant that Superintendent Ned Clooten applied for. “I was actually kind of surprised that we received it,” Clooten said.” We were not supposed to be eligible as we have received this grant before. But I applied anyway and we got it.” Now all the ovens are upgraded in the district. Devils Lake High School also received two $10,000 Choice Ready grants.
