BISMARCK, N.D. — Greg Lange, a longtime Missouri River advocate in Mercer County, was presented with the Riverman Award by the Missouri River Joint Water Resource Board on Dec. 7 at the 60th annual Joint North Dakota Water Convention and Irrigation Workshop in Bismarck.

The award is given by the Missouri River Joint Water Board to an individual or organization in appreciation for a lifetime of leadership, resource management and water development in the Missouri River corridor. Lange was born and raised in Devils Lake, N.D., as the third of 10 children. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a law degree and spent most of his career at a law firm in Hazen, N.D.

Lange developed a passion for water-related issues and served 30 years with the Mercer County Water Resource Board as legal counsel and secretary/treasurer. Even in retirement, he continues to be involved with water-related issues as legal counsel and secretary/treasurer of the Missouri River Joint Water Board, which he’s been involved with since its inception in 2005.

Lange is married to his wife, Laurie, and they have four children and eight grandchildren. He enjoys spending time outside hiking, biking, downhill skiing, or spending time on the river.
