The Ramsey County Commission met for a regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m.

After approving the previous meeting’s minutes and current meeting’s agenda, Head of Maintenance Roger Gunderson presented bids for 1,000 LED lightbulbs, which will replace almost three floors of the courthouse lights. The commission unanimously approved the purchase of these lightbulbs from Lake Region Electric.

Emergency Manager Chris Jaeger was also present to volunteer allocating part of his budget towards the purchase of an ID badge maker for an added layer of security access to the courthouse. This was approved, contingent upon the new badge being compatible with the fob system currently in place.

The 2023 foreclosure sale featured lots and properties for sale in Ontario township, Churchs Ferry, Devils Lake, Ramsey County, Hampden, and Lawton. Four bids were made and accepted for a portion of these properties.

Chris Jaeger continued with the proposal of purchasing a new larger drone to further assist with law enforcement and search and rescue, with the support of Sheriff Bryan Lang. This purchase was approved unanimously. Highway Superintendent Kevin Fieldsend request was approved to order three 60-inch culverts, and Sheriff Lang was approved to allocate grant funding as he outlined to the commission and to move up the ordering date for new radios to this year.

State’s Attorney Beau Cummings requested out-of-state travel at the end of February and beginning of March, as he was selected for a highly competitive National Computer Forensic Institute training course to become further educated in digital evidence, cybercrimes, and the creation and distribution of illegal images in Hoover, Alabama. The commissioners approved this travel, which will have 100% of costs paid for by the Institute. Cummings then gave a recap on the joint powers agreement between the City of Devils Lake, Ramsey County, and the Law Enforcement Center; three signatures will be needed since the four parcels of land the LEC sits on belong to three separate entities, and the commission voted unanimously to approve the signing of the proposed agreement on each necessary document.

The commission then approved a homestead credit, raffle permits, and the proclamation of Lake Region Public Library Day on Sunday, December 3.
