The Ramsey County Commission met for a regular meeting at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 6. Following the approval of previous meeting minutes, bills, financial reports, treasurer’s checks, and the agenda, the commission heard an update from the Ramsey County Water District, which included the upcoming need for a board member to fill a retiring vacancy. Paul Christenson was present and proposed being listed as the Property Manager for the Churchs Ferry area that was dissolved earlier this year. The commission agreed to this, and Mr. Christenson will send invoices for maintenance such as lawn care to the county for reimbursement.
Highway Superintendent Kevin Fieldsend then gave an update on projects, some of which have been delayed due to weather. Several open invoices were approved for payment, and advertisements for bids for a new 50-ton trailer and snowblower will be placed in the Devils Lake Journal shortly.
Representatives from Bremer Bank were present to update the commission on a new account structure that many entities are adopting (the city adopted the same structure at their meeting the night before). The commission approved this change. A bid was opened for general mechanical and construction work for a generator replacement at a total cost of $420,000 from Bergstrom Electric. This was lower than the $431,000 estimate made previously, and the commission approved this bid unanimously.
Several other discussion points were made and approved, such as solidifying 2024 meeting days, a homestead credit, a site authorization, and a raffle permit. The commission also proclaimed Operation Green Light for Veterans, which states that on Saturday, November 11 citizens are encouraged to leave their porch lights on in support of those that have served.
One citizen was present to comment on county roads not having edges properly reclaimed, causing water to sometimes build up to 4-5 inches high and forcing landowners to move it themselves. This issue will be brought up at the yearly township meeting in the spring to set out definitively who is responsible for this process.
