The Devils Lake City Commission met for a regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
After approving minutes from the previous two meetings, the commission recognized SRO Christon Dallas for five years of service to the City of Devils Lake. It was also noted in commissioner portfolios that Team Law won the Battle of the Badges blood drive this go-around. The commission opened a bid for delivery and truck purchase out of Fargo for $153,827, which was referred to Engineering to come back with a recommendation.
Commissioner portfolios had updates regarding the Law Enforcement Center joint powers agreement, ordinances that will come before the commission soon, and the city’s public budget hearing to occur on Monday, September 18. Commissioners voted unanimously to reappoint Tammy Meyer, Paul Thompson, and Jason Pierce to the Shade Tree Committee.
RWB Investments had proposed a project to build an auto body shop and renovate the Toyota dealership property on Highway 2 through the Renaissance Zone, but did not receive the necessary letter of support from the Devils Lake School Board. Because of this, City Assessor Rob Johnson recommended approving the building of the body shop and putting a hold on the dealership construction until another plan of action can be made. This was approved unanimously via roll call vote by the commission. A pay estimate for the Stromquist storm sewer project of $329,199.72 was also approved, with the final motion of the meeting being to pay the bills.
