The Devils Lake School Board held their regularly scheduled meeting Monday evening at 5 p.m.
After the usual formalities, the board began to address the agenda items.
The financial report was reviewed by business manager, Melissa Haahr and was briefly discussed and approved. The bills, that consisted of 24 pages, were briefly reviewed/discussed and were unanimously approved for payment.
The two students that went to SkillsUSA in Atlanta did very well. Mattyson Ertelt, competed in the Job Interview Competition and came in seventh in the nation and Hallie Fritel finished 26th in the nation in Related Technical Math. SkillsUSA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 high school, college and middle school students and professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupation. The organization holds competitions that showcase the best career and technical education students in the US.
The Summer Food Program served numbers very similar to last year. This year it was a little bit higher than last year as Sweetwater and Prairie View did not hold summer school because those two schools were transitioning to the elementary format.
Dates to remember for the School Board include the back-to-school breakfast, August 15, the first day of school, August 23, and Native American Advisory Committee meeting is set for September 12.
Ramsey County Assessor, Rob Johnson presented information regarding the Renaissance Zone Development Plan seeking a letter of support for the plan. As a tax paying entity, the schoolboard has an interest in the project.
New board member, Emily Foss, shared her observation after reviewing the documents provided by Johnson, that some of the information, was perhaps outdated and inaccurate. The board unanimously, agreed to table the motion until a revision of the documents is received.
Moving on, the board approved committee appointments.
Authorization Representative and Signature Authority needed board approval of new Superintendant, Clooten. He will now be the authorized representative and signature authority for federal programs for the 2023-24 school year.
Tuition waivers for out of district included two students to Fort Totten and four to Starkweather, and those were approved. Tuition waivers for in district included 27 students, 17 families, and those were also approved.
The agenda items for the next meeting, Monday, Aug. 28, were discussed briefly, and the meeting was adjourned at 5:23 p.m.
