Kayla Britsch is headed to UND this fall thanks in part to two scholarships from the local and state Kiwanis Clubs. She attended the Tuesday, Aug. 15 meeting of the Devils Lake Kiwanis to thank them and the state partners for the money she received to help with her higher education.
Lee Christofferson, Kiwanis member, invited Britsch as his guest to share her plans for the future with the club.
First, she explained the cords around her neck from graduation that highlighted her over 600 hours of volunteer work in the community, the “blood cord” recognizing her donation to and volunteering at the local blood bank and the yellow cord recognizing her 4.0 average and graduating with distinction. All this has helped her acceptance into the Early Assurance Program in Physical Therapy at UND where, if all goes as planned, she is guaranteed a place in the PT program. Where other students would have to compete for open slots, she will not have to.
Kayla was heading to Grand Forks Tuesday afternoon, following the Kiwanis meeting, to meet with officials regarding her upcoming class schedule for the fall semester at UND. Christofferson and Kiwanis President Lisa Crosby led the standing ovation of club well-wishers for Kayla’s future and asked her to come back and give Kiwanis an update sometime in the future.
