The Devils Lake School Board had a full agenda for the July 27 5 p.m. meeting beginning with the Financial Report, Approval of the bills, Communications and the 2022-23 School District State Financial Report. With explanation and brief overview by Business Manager Melissa Haahr all four items were approved by the board.
The board voted unanimously to approve the two-year contract to be extended to the new Superintendent, Ned Clooten.
That done, they discussed and ultimately approved unanimously the request to release Matt Bakke from his contract, effective July 28.
Then they disbanded the 2022-23 School Board and called to order the 2023-24 School Board with Emily Foss taking Steve Halldorson’s position at the table.
Then it was time to reorganize the board calling for nominations for President and Vice President. Cory Meyer will be the President and Jason Hodous will be the Vice President of the 23-24 School Board. Haahr will continue as the District’s Business Manager and was sworn in with the Oath of Office by Meyer, making it official.
Action items:
The Devils Lake Journal was designated the official newspaper of the district.
Deposits and Withdrawals were authorized.
Assets were pledged.
The preliminary school year budget was approved as were the preliminary Certificates of Levy.
One request for a tuition waiver for a student leaving the district and several requests for tuition waivers for students coming into the Devils Lake District were all approved.
Under “Personnel” it was announced that with the hiring of Vanessa McLaughlin, Special Ed, that department was fully staffed.
The regularly scheduled meetings of the Devils Lake School Board will take place at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14 and Monday, Aug. 28.
This meeting concluded with a “thank you” cake for retiring board member Steve Halldorson. Each board member expressed their thanks and appreciation to Halldorson who has served on the board for nearly two decades.
