Johnathan Van Thompson, “Wambdi Hoksina” (Eagle Boy), 29, of the Spirit Lake Nation passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, in Fargo, ND. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 17 from 12 noon until 4 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Please continue to keep the Thompson family in your thoughts and prayers. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, visitors to the funeral home will be limited to no more than 10 in the building at one time and social distancing must be practiced. As restrictions are lifted we hope to be together as a family soon to lay our precious Johnathan to his earthly place of rest. Jonathan Van began his earthly journey on Jan. 24, 1991, at Devils Lake ND, the son of Delilah Renae BlueShield and Vance Thompson Sr. He attended school in Moorhead, MN. He worked at several jobs in Moorhead and Fargo including Paradiso Restaurant, Building Window Cleaner all over in different rural towns. Jonathan loved sports, video games, playing at Casino’s and his favorite pastime of listening to music. He loved spending time with his children and family members and joking around and teasing. He took pride in his appearance wearing nice clothes and shoes. Johnathan and Jarreah Eastman, his school sweetheart, married and to this union were born Jayden and Jayce, his precious boys. Jonathan had a very special relationship and friendship with Nicole Sanders (aka Pockets) his nickname for her. They have been friends for over 11 years, then started dating in 2019. They are the proud parents of a baby boy, Easton Ashton, whom they loved and cherished with all their heart. Johnny also loved Nicole’s other children as his own. He was their babysitter when they were younger. Johnny was so excited about his new tiny baby and his whole precious family. It was a new beginning for him. Johnathan’s loving family include; his father, Vance Thompson Sr.; mother, Delilah Renae Blueshield; little nephew/brother, Jake Ironhawk; children, Jayden and Jayce Thompson, Easton Ashton Thompson; brothers, Walter A. “Sonny” Thompson, Vance James Thompson Jr., Sage Thompson; and his only sister, Lauren IronHawk, whom he was very protective of, he would do almost anything for her; aunties, Amanda Smith, Candace Smith, Leola White, Alvina Thompson, Lynette Blueshield, Valerie Paul, Joan RedFox, Adeline Blueshield, Karen Longie, Darla Thiele, Sheila Blueshield, June Blueshield, Julie Johnson, Monica Dubois, Lorna WalkingEagle and Tammy Blueshield; uncles, Aaron Thompson, Adrian Thompson, Waylon Smith, Lonnie Smith, Calvin Smith Jr., Kevin Blueshield, Alvin Blueshield, Eric Dubois, Clayton Blueshield and Harlan Blueshield.
