No. 1 Four Winds-Minnewaukan overmatches North Star by 45 to advance. Dunseith uses huge second half to bounce reigning region champion New Rockford-Sheyenne.

Monday, March 9, was the opening day — or quarterfinals — of the Class B boys Region 4 tournament and two things are certain at the conclusion of Day 1; 1) Four Winds-Minnewaukan demonstrated why it's the unanimous No. 1 team in Class B and 2) there will be a new Region 4 representative in 'The B' next week in Bismarck.

Senior Doug Yankton scored his 1,000th career point on a free throw with 1:22 left in the third quarter and finished with a game high 24 points to lead the Indians to the 88-43 win over North Star. The Indians (21-1) went out to the 17-4 lead and kept adding to it from there, as they led 49-20 at halftime.

Jacob LaRock had 12 points and Jayden Yankton finished with 10 for Four Winds-Minnewaukan who will face Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich in Tuesday's semifinals.

The Bearcats (8-15) were led by Caleb Svir's 16 points.

Dunseith 58, New Rockford-Sheyenne 53

Paced by Ethan Morin's 21 points, the Dragons used a 35-22 second half to knock out the defending region champion Rockets.

Morin scored 18 points in the second half, including a personal 7-0 as part of a 15-0 run in the third quarter that turned an eight point halftime deficit to a 10 point lead after three periods. The Dragons (13-10) outscored the Rockets 20-7 in the third quarter.

Brenton Longie added 17 points for the Dragons, who made 11 3-pointers for the game. Dunseith will play St. John in the other semifinal game.

Bo Belquist, who will be playing football for the University of North Dakota in the fall, finished with 17 points to pace the Rockets whose season end at 15-8.

Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich 46, Benson County 41

Grant Romfo scored 22 points and Ordale Morstad scored 12 points and the Cardinals (17-5) rallied in the second half to beat the Wildcats.

Jackson Delvo added eight points and the Cardinals, who trailed by three at halftime after Benson County's Macyn Olson hit a 3 at the buzzer, took the lead for good when Morstad's 3-pointer with around 2:45 left in the third period gave Langdon-E-M the 31-29 lead. The Cardinals advantage never rose above five the rest of the way.

Blayne Anderson scored 20 points for the Wildcats (16-7).

Zack Anderson scored 24 points and Tyreece Gunville added 13 points and the sixth-ranked Woodchucks (19-3) powered their way over the Knights.

The Woodchucks outscored Dakota Prairie (14-9) 15-6 in the third quarter that proved to be the difference. Adam Jollie finished with 10 points but was assigned to defend future Lake Region State College's Tyler Loe, who ended his high school career scoring 15 points.

Parker Frederick led the Knights with 16 points.
