Lavonne Mae Alberts, “Tate Heciya Pa Win” (Head Against the Wind Woman), 62, of the Spirit Lake Nation, began her journey to the Spirit World on Friday evening, Nov. 1, 2019, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. The Wake was held on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Fort Totten Wellness Center with a time of remembrance at 8 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten left on Tuesday at 6 p.m. from the City Plaza in Devils Lake. Gathering of family and friends continued through the night and ends at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Military Honors accorded by the Spirit Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6547. Burial will be held at a later date. She began her journey on earth on March 1, 1957, at Devils Lake, ND, the daughter of Lawrence Joshua Jr. and Winona Fox. Special Tributes: all singers, drum groups and speakers are welcome to share their songs and stories in memory of Lavonne.
