Dickinson outscores Devils Lake 30-1 over the doubleheader.

Dickinson made the 275 mile trek northeast to Devils Lake on Friday, May 10, winners of 12 of its previous 13 games and outscoring its opponents 194 to 26. The Midgets left the Sports Complex still streaking and still scoring in droves.

The Midgets spoiled the Firebirds’ ‘Senior Day’ with a North Dakota High School Activities Association softball sweep by outscoring the Firebirds 30-1 over two games.

In the first game, the Midgets got the scoring going early. After leadoff hitter Kennedy Kuntz got on with a single, Kamryn Kuntz’s hit forced an error by the Firebirds that allowed Kennedy Kuntz to score from second and Kamryn to go all the around to third. Brianna Ashworth’s singled scored Kamryn Kuntz that gave the Midgets the 2-0 lead after one half inning of play.

In the top of the second inning, Kamryn Kuntz’s two-run double with out scored Emy Personne and Kennedy Kuntz to push Dickinson’s advantage to four.

Trailing by seven runs, the Firebirds plated one in the bottom of the sixth when Abby Johnson’s leadoff triple led to her being brought in by Avery Swenson, who was thrown out at first on the fielder’s choice. Morgan Anderson got an infield single, followed by a Tiffany Robbins’ single that put runners at first and second with one out. However, with two outs, Robbins is caught stealing third to end the inning.

The Midgets added the final run in the top of the seventh.

Dickinson’s starting pitcher Mataya Mortensen struck out eight. The eight runs scored by the Midgets was the second lowest run output of the season. In a loss to Bismarck back on May 4, the Midgets scored three runs. Both Kennedy Kuntz and Kamryn Kuntz scored two runs each for Dickinson.

Midgets 22,

Firebirds 0 (5 innings)

Dickinson’s starting pitcher Hope Faith allowed two hits and struck out six in three innings of work. It was all she needed.

The Midgets (16-6) had a six, five and eight run inning over the first four innings to end Game 2 of the doubleheader by the 10-run Mercy Rule.

Ahead 13-0 heading into the fourth, an RBI by Personne that scored Kennedy Kuntz was the first run of eight scored by the Midgets. Taylor Nelson had an RBI double and both Kennedy Kuntz and Kamryn Kuntz each had an RBI in the inning.

Kennedy Kuntz scored four runs in the second game, giving her six runs scored for the day.

Swenson and Robbins each had hits for the Firebirds (1-10).
