Don Kuntz Benefit - Sunday, March 31

On Sunday, March 31 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. there will be a benefit for Don Kuntz at the St. Joseph Parish Center, 501 4th St. NE in Devils Lake. Kuntz is a lifelong resident of Devils Lake.

In his younger years his service and dedication to helping others was seen, not only as an ambulance driver, but especially as a father to his five girls. At an early age his back and neck had to be fused due to a condition called ankylosing spondylitis. As the years crept by so did many complicated medical issues. Then in 2017 Don was diagnosed with bladder cancer which led to him seeking treatments in Grand Forks.

On April 20, 2018, upon his return trip home from a procedure in Grand Forks, he went into respiratory distress and was rushed to the Devils Lake ER where he went into cardiac arrest. Thankfully he was revived and life flighted to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Don has faced many challenges in the past ten months which kept him in and out of the hospital and rehab center in Fargo incurring many medical expenses.

On Feb. 11, he was able to be brought back to his home in Devils Lake under the 24/7 care of his family. He has started intense physical therapy with the goal to regain strength to walk again. His family invites the public to come to the Parish Center in Devils Lake, enjoy some breakfast, check out some of the great items donated and take home some snacks from the many donated baked items at the bake sale.

If you are unable to make it Sunday, but would like to donate, an account has been set up at Western State Bank in Devils Lake. Donations of baked goods for the bake sale and silent auction items would be welcome. Call Carrie at 701-330-2600.

Engberg Family Benefit - Thursday, April 11

On Thursday, April 11 a benefit will be held in the Devils Lake High School Commons from 5 - 7 p.m. for the Engberg Family who lost their home to a fire on March 23.

At the benefit a spaghetti meal will be served for a free-will donation of a minimum donation of $5 per person. A silent auction will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

If you would like to donate a basket or item for the silent auction, drop it off at the DLHS office or call 662-1200 and someone will pick it up. The event is sponsored by the Dick and Louise Prozinski family and the Devils Lake High  School Student Council.
