Four Winds/Minnewaukan, New Rockford-Sheyenne both capture boys District 7 semifinal wins.

Doug Yankton scored a game-high 25 points and Four Winds/Minnewaukan used a 17-3 run to beat Benson County 56-40 Saturday, Feb. 23, in the first of two boys Class B District 7 semifinal games from the Sports Center.

The Indians (17-3) went up by four after a Yankton basket with 5:35 left in the first quarter. When the Wildcats scored with 5:05 remaining until halftime, Four Winds/Minnewaukan was leading by 16. The Indians led 37-14 at halftime however were outscored 18-6 in the third period and saw their advantage dwindle down to 11. Benson County got to within 10 in the fourth quarter but Yankton, who was 9-for-16 from the charity stripe, made six straight free throws over the final minute to seal the win.

Jaymison Jackson scored 10 for the Indians.

Carter Tandeski scored 13 points and Kadin Neppl had 10 for the Wildcats (11-9).

NR-S 79, Dakota Prairie 64

Five players scored in double figures, led by Teddy Allmaras’ 21 points, as the Rockets fought off the Knights in the second semifinal game.

The Knights took a three point lead into the second quarter after Bryce Trenda beat the buzzer with a 3-point bomb from beyond half court but the Rockets (18-2) ended the half on a 6-2 spurt that gave them the lead that they would never relinquish.

Bo Belquist scored 16 points, Hunter Thompson scored 12 and Tucker Longnecker and Parker Granger both finished with 11 points for the Rockets.

Parker Frederick scored 18 points to pace the Knights (15-7). Dayton Miles scored 17 points and Trenda finished with 16 points.
