Minnewaukan is known as “The little town by the big lake.”

Residents there are taking advantage of that “big lake,” Devils Lake, and hosting the 14th annual Minnewaukan Community Club and Fire Department Fishtival - formerly known as the Fffishtival - coming on March 2.

This event has grown in popularity over the years, according to one of the organizers, Aaron McQuoid. He said they expect over 500 anglers this year since last year they had 505. The lake’s ice is in good shape thanks to all the cold weather the region has known this winter, but the deep snow won’t be a problem for anglers because they are having the area of the lake used for the tournament cleared before that weekend. McQuoid promises that there will be plowed roads throughout the boundaries of the ice fishing tournament, an approximate 10 mile by 10 mile area.

Ice fishing Fishtival is a day filled with fun in the great outdoors and includes fishing prizes for the big ice fishing tournament which starts at 6:30 - 9 a.m. with registration. Fishing is to take place between 6:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. with weigh-ins during fishing hours. You have to be in line, waiting for your catch to be weighed before 2 p.m. according to the official rules.
