Carol Pederson, 90, of Bismarck, ND, and formerly of Maddock, ND, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019. Services will be held at a later date. Carol was born July 28, 1928, to Christian and Carrie (Bondeli) Knatterud on their farm, five miles south of Flora, ND. She attended grade school in Flora and then went to the Benson County Agricultural and Training School in Maddock, graduating in 1947. On May 16, 1948, at the North Viking Luther Church in Maddock, Carol was united in marriage to Ervin Pederson. After working at the Co-op grocery store and later at the Haukness store, she became the bookkeeper for her husband’s trucking and spray businesses. Her favorite job was being a wife and a mother; where she prioritized above all else, including herself, the caring and well-being of her four children and husband. As an active member of the North Viking WELCA and the Viking Homemakers, Carol enjoyed making quilts, especially those given to the church to donate. Other hobbies she enjoyed were gardening, sewing, crafts and golf. Ervin often teased her about spending more time in her garden than with him. They moved to Bismarck in 2005, where they became members of the Lutheran Church of the Cross. Carol is survived by; two daughters, Karen (Wayne) Halle, Devils Lake, ND, and Jean (George) Hilts, Bismarck; and two sons, Paul (Lisa) Pederson, Tabernash, CO, and Dave (Lisa) Pederson, Castle Rock, CO; six grandsons; two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and one sister, Joan Bratvold, Loveland, CO. She was preceded in death by; her husband of 62 years, Ervin Pederson; parents, Christian and Carrie Knatterud; brother, Merton Knatterud; sisters, Maxine Halvorson and Lois Oscarson; and grandson, Peder John Hilts. Online condolences may be left at www.thenelsonfuneralhome.com. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of the arrangements.
