Loren Borgerson, 64, of Bottineau, ND, formerly of Devils Lake, ND, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND, from complications of circulatory issues. A memorial service for friends and family in celebration of his life will be at Gilbertson’s Funeral Home in Devils Lake on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at 1 p.m. Loren Raymond, the son of Raymond and Donna (Hanson) Borgerson, was born on May 23, 1954, in New Rockford, ND. He moved with his family as Ray’s job with Nodak Rural Electric lead them. They lived in Grand Forks, ND, for one year, Edinburg for eight years and in 1963 moved to Devils Lake where they made their home through the years. Loren attended public schools in Edinburg and Devils Lake and after high school, joined the US Navy. He later took taxidermy classes. Loren was a kind, gentle soul and lived a simple life. He got an early start working with his hands helping his dad and grandfather in building the house they called home in the Frison Addition. While in high school, he enjoyed working on his own cars whether mechanical or aesthetic issues like jacking up the back of his ’65 Plymouth Fury III. He did body work, changed or overhauled engines, whatever needed doing, did himself. He worked in construction/carpentry and for a couple of years in the late ‘70’s, he worked for Hesch’s Furniture in Devils Lake. He went on to work in carpentry and eventually decided to venture out on his own working independently in carpentry, taxidermy and masonry. He also worked for Murphy Sheet Metal, a company out of California, building skylights around the US during the late 80’s and early 90’s. Loren married Darlene Helten on June 28, 1977, and they made Devils Lake their home. They enjoyed living in the country and besides a precious daughter, Jennifer, raised many family pets throughout the years including: horses, dogs, cats and rabbits. They enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, fishing, trail rides and he loved hunting. On July 15, 1995, Loren married Jody Ellis and they made Bottineau their home. Health issues plagued their lives for many years, beginning before Jody had a liver transplant in 1999, up until her death on Aug. 20, 2017. Loren spent a lot of time caring for Jody, putting off his own health issues. On Feb. 28, 2017, part of his lung was removed from cancer, landing Jody in a nursing home in Dunseith, ND, from which she never left. Loren finally had surgery in Fargo for his circulatory issues on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, and suffered complications leading to his death on Dec. 2. He is no longer in pain and his family has faith only Jesus gives they will be reunited someday soon. Until then they will miss him tremendously.
