The word is still out on the hog farm proposed for Ramsey County.  September 28, was the last day comments could be submitted either for or against the farm.  A permit for Grand Prairie Agriculture LLP, was initially approved by the Department of Health for 2,499 pigs—2,079 sows and another 420 farrowing hogs—and last Sept. 13, two meetings were held to hear and receive written testimony at Lake Region State College and at the Spirit Lake Casino.  A decision to grant, modify the final permit, or deny it will come after the all the comments are reviewed.

“The decision is still in limbo,” said Marty Haroldson, of the North Dakota Division of Water Quality, North Dakota Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permitting.  “We  respond to every comment.  We received over one hundred documents, and that includes emails.  Some of the documents are technical and we have to review the information.”

Haroldson that he “and a couple of others” have been going through the comments.  “We thought we’d be done with this in sixty- to eighty days,” he said.  “Obviously we’ve blown through sixty.”  He said they’ll be done responding by the new year for sure.
