Lake Region State College gets the 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 sweep over Dakota County Technical College.

With 14 matches left in the regular season, Lake Region State College’s head coach Brigitte Greywater described her team’s progression like climbing a mountain.

“We got stopped on the mountain last week, took a couple of steps back, but now we’re moving forward again,” said Greywater after the Royals beat fellow Region XIII member Dakota County Technical College Sunday 3-0 from the Sports Center.

“So we’re not where we need to be quite yet but we’re doing a lot of good things and we battled back from a hard loss to Bismarck." (The Royals was swept by the Mystics Wednesday, Sept. 19.)

The Royals (11-8) dominated the match over the Blue Knights (7-6), leading wire-to-wire in the 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 sweep. It wasn’t until the third set when the Blue Knights had a lead past the early stages of a set.

Trailing by two after an Erin Jorgenson block, the Blue Knights scored three straight points that gave them the 6-5 advantage. But with the score tied at 9, Annie Jorgensen’s kill gave the Royals the lead again for good as LRSC closed out the match.

“For us, I thought we started off a little shaky because we tried to slow down our game,” Greywater said. “We have to keep our game fast, and once we started to focus on that again, play our pace and control the tempo, they have to keep up with us.”

Continued Greywater. “They did some nice things defensively, they dug some huge balls and that was all part of maintaining tempo.”

Elizbeth Lucy had seven kills to go along with five blocks.

Erin Jorgenson had nine kills and Rachel Hill had 23 assists and four aces. LRSC will be back in Mon-Dak play Friday, Sept. 28, when it travels to Montana to face Miles Community College.
