Jacob Greene throws gem, delivers at the plate as well as Devils Lake take one of two from Grand Forks in Legion Baseball action.
Devils Lake starting pitcher Jacob Greene praised the glove work of his teammates behind him after the Game 1 win over Grand Forks.
He did make it easy for them.
Greene allowed three runs off of four hits and struck out seven as the Storm defeated the Blues 8-3 Tuesday at Legion Field in the first of a Legion Class A Northeast Division doubleheader.
Grand Forks won Game 2 14-2 in five innings.
“That was a good performance by everyone,” Greene said after he had just thrown the complete game. “I had my defense to have my back. “It was a good win.”
Greene also helped himself at the plate, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.
“Jacob has been dialed in the last three outings,” said Storm head coach Tanner Carpenter. “He’s been dialed in, locked in and he’s going to have to be successful for us.”
The Blues got on the board first when Joey Grubanski went deep over the left field fence for one of two home runs given up by Greene in his outing.
Devils Lake (7-21) took over the lead in the third after a Greene double scored Michael Widmer. That was followed by an infield hit by Ryan Haahr that allowed Aaron Johnson to come across.
The Storm scored five runs over the next three innings to cement the win.
“I thought we played really well. We scored some runs when we needed to,” Carpenter said of his team’s Game 1 performance. “We put the pressure on them, that was the biggest thing.”
Haahr went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored and Johnson had two RBIs.
And what about Game 2?
“The second game the pressure was all on us the whole time. So we couldn’t hit or run or steal. We couldn’t do those types of things,” Carpenter said.
“I’m happy to get a split but at the same time but I think we’re capable of winning two games at the same time. We had a good win, but not so good a loss,” said Carpenter.
