Marilyn was born on September 2, 1949, in Devils Lake to Cyril and Anna (Pesek) Shirek. She and her three siblings, Shirley (Patterson), Kathryn (Vadnais) and Ken Shirek, were raised in Lawton, ND. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1967, she moved to Fargo. In 1969, Marilyn and Leo Gnoinsky were married and had two children, Crystal (Gnoinsky) Ames and Collin Gnoinsky. In 1977, she and Drew Emanuel were married. After 34 wonderful years of working at Wallworks and Luther Family Ford, the remainder of her life was spent happily retired at their lake home. Marilyn’s pastimes included camping, gardening and making memories with family and friends. Spending time on her paddleboat “Hope Floats” represented her strength through cancer. Marilyn lived with passion and loved to color outside the lines of life. Whether she was tailgating at NDSU games or walking on the beach in Mexico, she was a constant source of light and love. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and other loved ones. She is survived by Drew, her husband and best friend of over 40 years; her children, Crystal (David Krabbenhoft), Collin (Leanne); and grandchildren, Anna, Hailey and Haiden. She is also survived by many other beloved family members. The family wishes to thank her healthcare providers and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their loving care.
