During surgery to repair his fractured skull, three-year-old Connor suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side.
The Knights of Columbus on 522 4th St. in Devils Lake is hosting a benefit for an ailing three-year-old Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Connor is the son of Daunisha Cost and Lucas Slominski and sustained a serious head injury in November of last year. He was airlifted to Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo and underwent three hours of surgery, during which part of his skull was removed due to swelling and bleeding.
During the surgery, Connor suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side. His family says that Connor is a fighter and became stronger with therapy after the stroke, learning to walk again.
In January of this year, Connor underwent another surgery to reattach the portion of his skull. Unfortunately, his body rejected the reattached skull fragment, and earlier this month Connor went through yet another surgery during which the bone was replaced with a titanium plate.
Needless to say, Connor has been through more as a three-year-old than many go through their entire lives.
Thursday’s benefit includes a spaghetti feed, a bake sale from 4 p.m. until all of the baked goods are gone, and a silent auction from 4 - 7:30. Connor’s family is also asking for a free will donation, and all proceeds will go toward his medical bills.
