Daniel TwoHearts, on the run for attempted murder after allegedly firing at officers and stealing multiple vehicles, one with a baby in it, reportedly shot himself after negotiators worked to resolve a hostage situation involving a man and woman.

Captain Jon Barnett of the Devils Lake Police Department said that Daniel TwoHearts, on the run for attempted murder after allegedly firing at officers and stealing multiple vehicles, one with a baby in it, shot himself after negotiators worked to resolve a hostage situation involving a man and woman.

An eyewitness said that police surrounded the Lock Block apartments, across from Creative Impressions on 5th St. and 4th Ave. and blocked part of 5th St. while officials from several agencies, including Devils Lake Police, the Ramsey County Sheriff's Dept., and BCI and ATF personnel worked to resolve the situation.

Barnett confirmed that both hostages, a male and a female, were successfully extracted from the apartment in which TwoHearts was barricaded.

“We evacuated the building and began negotiations and assembling officers," Barnett said. "We got the female out and the other male, and he was isolated."

With TwoHearts alone in the apartment and the hostages safe, Barnett reports that a shot was heard from inside.

"As we were working on the situation, we heard a shot in the apartment," Barnett said. "We forced entry, and it appears Mr. TwoHearts shot himself. One round, it looks like. It appears it was non-fatal. I was right there on the scene."

TwoHearts was reportedly airlifted to Grand Forks. His condition is unknown at this time.

Barnett says that the public can rest easy now that the suspect is no longer a threat.

“People can relax. It got a little tense for awhile in town," Barnett said. "It’s taken care of. We’re good to go.”

TwoHearts is expected to be charged with attempted murder, among a range of other charges likely. The Journal will update the story as events unfold.
