Last week’s Charity Ball, which featured a basketball game between Devils Lake High School and Central Middle School staff, a silent auction and a carnival for kids, raised $9,500.

The fifth annual charity event was held for Kim Daniels, head cook at CMS, who is currently fighting cancer. Daniels had a tumor removed recently, but unfortuanetly the cancer had spread to her liver.

She is currently undergoing treatments in Grand Forks.

Organizer Kensi Wateland reports that this year’s event raised a record amount.

“We were able to present her a check for $9,500, definitely the most funds we have ever made!” Wateland said.

Daniels was clearly emotional when presented the check, as she was when her son, Dylan Veer, serenaded her with his version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” at last week’s event.

The money raised should help Daniels as she continues her battle against cancer. Last year’s event raised money for Alivia Church in order to provide a service dog to help her family with her care.

The Charity Ball is expected to continue annually in order to benefit those in the region in need.
