Jessie (Davis) Olson,  Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, is the latest addition to the Devils Lake Animal Clinic located at 8321 Highway 2 East.
She is a 2008 Devils Lake High School graduate who grew up in the area, the daughter of Bob and Cindy Davis.

She graduated from NDSU in Fargo in May of 2012 and then it was off to Colorado and Veterinary School at Colorado State in Fort Collins.
Like a lot of girls who grow up in rural North Dakota she always wanted to be a veterinarian because she loved animals. While attending NDSU she did job shadowing at the Devils Lake Animal Clinic and that helped her to decide where she would focus her education.

“I always knew I wanted to pursue something in the medical field,” Olson stated.
“Pete Tjelta and everyone at the clinic here made the decision an easy one,” she said.
Through the years, Tjelta became something of a mentor for Olson as she pursued her dream.

So it was no wonder that once she graduated, she came back to her home region to practice in an established clinic like Tjelta’s.
Her work in Devils Lake started at the end of June.
So far she says she is enjoying working at the clinic and says the team of people she gets to work with make it even more enjoyable. “They are all so experienced and I feel like I’m still learning a lot,” she said.

“I like the variety of my work,” she said. But the best part is working with the animals. As a veterinarian she performs surgery, medical examinations, dermatology, internal medicine, “You do it all,” Olson says.
The team at the Devils Lake Animal Clinic consists of Tjelta and Olson, the veterinarians, Deb, who is the office manager and receptionist, Sheryl, who is a licensed veterinary technician and Mona, who is the veterinary assistant, but according to Olson, “does it all.”

After many years in a building that had seen better days, next to the sales ring, now the whole team is in its new location, just a few hundred yards away from the old, in a brand spanking new clinic. They are planning a Grand Opening with tours and refreshments on Monday, Oct. 24 1 - 6 p.m.
Olson is married to Mitch, who works for Burdick and Daniels CPA. The couple lives on the farm near Crary that was her grandfather’s and her great grandfather’s - hers is the fourth generation of the family on the farm.

The Olsons have a horse named Gringo and four dogs, for now that’s the extent of their immediate family. Olson loves to participate in and watch just about all sports in her spare time.
